Puerto Plata, also known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata, is a city in the Dominican Republic with a population of about 130,000. It’s the capital of Puerto Plata Province and is famous for its lovely sandy beaches. You can take a funicular to the top of the mountain behind Puerto Plata, where you’ll find a replica of the original Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
